Merry Christmas to all

And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father's only Son, full of grace and truth.

I am in Tomball with my family, enjoying the quiet afternoon by playing with my cell phone's ringtones and watching Depeche Mode's 1988 Rose Bowl concert on DVD (thanks, Micki!). In a little while we'll go to the movies and find out if The Phantom of the Opera is as bad as the reviews make it out to be.

When I drove in, there were brief snow flurries. Some parts of Houston had a bit of a white Christmas. Tomball, however, did not, alas. I stayed up entirely to late last night, but fortunately was able to sleep in till 9.30 this morning. My mother, father, brother and I headed to 10.30 Mass (Leah had to sing at midnight Mass last night), but Mass was held in the Catholic school gymnasium as he heater broke down in the main Church building last night. Still, it was lovely, and one of the more moving Masses I have experienced in a while despite the hasty decorations and inconvenient location.

Then we came home and opened presents! I have a spiffy new digital camera and cute shirts, a lovely blue
pullover and a cool European guidebook, lots of chopsticks for my hair, body lotion and a DVD of Willow, which was utterly unexpected but cool.

Christmas dinner was a feast of turducken (turkey stuffed with duck stuffed with chicken! It's a fowl supper, hyuk), with stuffed shrimp balls, green beans, sweet potatoes, brussels sprouts and fresh bread. There is a warm bread pudding downstairs, too, which is calling my name.

Hope all of you are enjoying as peaceful and blessed a Christmas as I am.
