Updates, eh?
So, Rebecca and Horst have gone to bed, and Rebecca's friend Sylvia is in the shower, leaving my night-owlish self time to blog. Pity RJ's keyboard is so freaky -- this is taking longer than it should, even for me.
So... Convention Alley. Was. A. Blast. So much fun. Even though no one knew who I was and Sylvia, Cally and I just followed Rebecca around like minions as the rest of the con attendees screamed "RJ! We love you!" All of the presentations I attended were fascinating, and the group discussions were ever so much fun. I haven't debated or discussed Harry Potter in detail in quite some time... it was a wonderful experience to get back into it -- and in real life, at that. I've still got a knack for arguing people down about Snape, it seems. Heh.
Though I admit, it is kind of surreal to say things like "slash" and "Riddlefic" and "Ron/Hermione" and "OTP" out loud. Very odd indeed. Yet fun. Very fun.
Unfortunately our Convention Alley viewing of Prisoner of Azkaban was cancelled, due to lack of theatres still playing it. So, we stopped in Toronto on the drive back in order to watch the film. We missed Cally, but there was still much loud snarkiness. It was lovely.
We arrived back yesterday evening and spent this morning sleeping in (at least, Sylvia and I did -- I think a late morning for Horst and Rebecca is one of those impossible dreams with the kids around). Then we went on a scenic drive through Mennonite country and a brief geocaching exploration, which yielded us a nice pig puzzle for Nicholas that entertained him for approximately five minutes. We walked along a trail for a bit and I took lots of pictures of Canadian wildflowers. And some freakish squirrels.
The rest of the afternoon was spent entertaining/corrupting the children with Trogdor, dealing with a bipolar Simon who couldn't decide on grumpiness or hyperactive giddiness, and listening to Nicholas babble alternately about the plot of Watership Down or spout very random sayings and quotations. Have I mentioned how totally adorable these kids are? And Horst cracks me up -- Rebecca always said he was like Calvin's dad, and I didn't quite believe her... but it's true! It's hilarious. Fortunately the kids have already caught on to Dad's sneaky sarcasm.
After the kids went to bed we played a rousing game of Phase Ten with their downstairs tenant, Keith, which ended with Rebecca conking out at the table, my winning victoriously at phase eight and Horst claiming the much-coveted title of Mayor of Shantytown.
And then it was off to bed -- or to blog, in my case.
Sylvia's flying back to her home tomorrow, and then I'm here till Thursday. I'm actually quite glad I got to meet Sylvia on this trip -- she's a riot. I'll have to keep in touch with her online.
Anyway... now it's bedtime for me too. Night all!
