Today's Friday Five isn't about Valentine's Day, thank goodness, though it's quite relevant for this blog:
1. Explain why you started to journal/blog. I originally intended Random Musings to be an extension of the one and only personal "newsletter" of college anecdotes I wrote back in September 2001. Since then it has become a special place for me to post silly quiz results and wibble on about different topics of varying interest.
2. Do people you interact with day to day or family members know about your journal/blog? Why or why not? At first, the only people who knew of my blog included my sister, a few close friends, and a whole lot of online companions. However, over the course of the past year, the circle of people who know of and read this little bit of oddness has expanded greatly, and now includes several members of my immediate and extended family, not to mention lots of people I've never met outside of the comment box. It's not a bad thing that so many people read it now -- if anything I like the attention -- but it does feel a bit weird at times. I don't nonchalantly hand out my blog address to people in Real Life, though; while I don't mind total strangers reading my blog, I'm kind of cautious about Real Life acquaintances and other people getting to "know" me through this venue. Odd, I know.
3. Do you have a theme for your journal/blog? I'm not sure you could call this record of my real (and, let's admit it, online) life a "theme". Even if I started the blog with the intent of keeping it restricted to college experiences, that changed a while ago. My template, however, does have a theme. It is, appropriately, an artsy theme -- I change the artwork in the sidebar about once every three or four months. Right now I like the Monet scheme, so I probably won't make a change until I leave for Italy, at which point I'll probably feature Raphael or some other Italian artist, of course. :)
4. What direction would you like to have your journal/blog go in over the next year? Honestly, what I hope most is that I am able to blog while I'm in Italy this summer. I know that there's no way I'll actually create a handwritten journal, so I would like to use this blog to keep a record of my experience there.
5. Pimp five of your favorite journals/blogs. I think my list of friends at the sidebar there answers this question for me. Go. Read their blogs. You know you want to. :)
