A highly biased and selective look at the college life of Teri

Life is full of little mysteries.

I worked for a mere three hours today. Friday night at the Starbucks was absolutely dead so I was sent home an hour early. The job isn't too bad, really, but I'm still having to re-train myself to do everything the Starbucks way. It will take a little time; that's just the way it is.

So after I got home tonight, Micki and I went grocery shopping at the local HEB -- which was a nightmare. I now know where all the people were hanging out. Not Starbucks, but HEB! I didn't think half of Austin considers Friday night a good time to stock their pantries, but apparently, they do. We pushed past a lot of extremely busy aisles, overflowing with grocery carts and screaming kids. An elderly lady in a muumuu walked by, cackling, "Yes, I do! Yes I do!" to us, and a rather unsavory-looking man hit on Micki in the produce aisle. But none of that compares to what happened when we returned to our apartment.

As we were unloading our purchases, I noticed a plastic bag sitting on the seat of my car. I assumed it was just one of our grocery bags, but when I picked it up, I realised that it did not hold anything that we had bought in HEB. Indeed, it didn't hold anything we could buy at all.

The mystery item: A bottle of Arbor Mist White Zinfandel. Exotic fruit flavored.

Now, I know that most of you would never believe any college student who finds wine in the back of her car and claims she never bought it (or stole it from her parents, or whatever), but I swear I had no idea this was back there. I'm happy with my strawberry soda, thank you very much. The bag and the bottle were both quite warm, so obviously it had been sitting in my car in the Texas heat for a while.

It seems that fate wants me to be a "normal" college student. Either that, or this is all a grand scheme -- a test, if you will -- plotted by my parents, or possibly by my sister. I brought the bottle inside with the rest of the groceries, giggling.

"Micki, I have a mystery for you!"

Micki was quick to snatch the wine from my hands as soon as I took it from the bag, and set it in the back of the fridge to chill. "If you don't want it, I do!" she said, rather enthusiastically.

I'm highly amused. Though I still have no clue where it came from. Not that it matters... I have this feeling that whoever left it in the backseat of my car is not getting it back. Heh.
