A highly biased and selective look at the college life of Teri

Well, here I am, back in Austin, and blogging from the PCL on campus. I came to the university area to do my banking and pay tuition (which I wasn't in time to do, but hey, I can do that later), but I couldn't resist walking down to the library. Not just because I wanted to play online for a bit, or because it's air conditioned, but because I wanted to smell it. I know that sounds rather bizarre. But there's something about the library and the books and everything that just smells good. The smell of academia. :) It's quiet, and it feels nice to sit here.

Of course, that may be my reaction to almost anything in Austin. I arrived at 9:30 this morning with my roommate Micki, and we unpacked a fairly decent load of junk into the new apartment (which will be just wonderful once we've got everything moved in and set up). I've spent the rest of the day getting our electric and phone accounts started, buying a few basic groceries, that sort of thing. But mostly I'm just thrilled to be in this town again. The whole atmosphere changes as I drive to Austin, and everything feels better: the weather is still hot, but it's not sticky and humid, the scenery is lovely, the topography has low hills instead of just miles of flatness. And the city itself is much better than Houston, especially around the University. Already I feel relaxed again, and happier.

It's good to be back.
