Odds and Ends

Some things I realise I've mentioned here but have not elaborated upon:

The A/C problem has been fixed at last! It was replaced Monday and now my apartment is a cool and refreshing 80F (26C for you Celcius people).

I know what you're thinking: 80? Is she insane? And the answer is no, I just like my A/C set a bit higher than most, but after three sweltering nights lying on top of the sheets and roasting like a pig inside my 95 degree furnace of an apartment, 80 is a very lovely temperature indeed.

My teeth seem to be healing up well. The right side is still a tad sensitive -- I had the stitches over there -- but otherwise, my mouth seems back to normal. Even the craters are starting to heal up, which is good because I was getting pretty tired of digging food out of them (eeeeeewww!).

My luggage has been picked up and is residing in Houston. This means I get to use my day off today to drive back and get it, which is not an exciting prospect. On the other hand, getting my underwear back is. Never before have I been so enthusiastic about undergarments.

Also, while I was away, my diplomas came in -- and it's official that I graduated with high honors in Art and honors in English. I have real live pieces of paper now to represent what I've done for the past four years.

I've spoken to Deltina since returning -- she asked me what kind of hours I would be interested in working. I told her to start out, I wanted to look at about 20 hours with her and 30 with Starbucks -- but eventually I want to reverse those numbers. I believe we're planning to meet sometime this week to discuss the finer details.

Harry Potter -- I'm still in my second read of the book, but once I'm done I'll be posting a review. Or, more likely, a collection of musings in various states of coherence. Suffice it to say, for now, that I think HBP is the best book yet. I want to dedicate a whole day to sitting down and browsing through the thoughts and theories that have sprung up around fandom in the past week, but whether I'll actually have the time or energy for that is another story.

There will be a lot of big life changes going on in the next few months. I mean, aside from that whole done-with-school-ready-for-teh-real-werld-job thing. Large purchases (and I'm not even talking about computers) are involved.

Firstly, I may be getting a new car. The car has been discussed as a graduation present since I was a freshman. I've made my '97 silver Saturn last me all through school, but it's reaching the end of its time with me. It's hit that point where everything slowly begins falling apart and requiring repairs. The most recent thing to die was the flywheel, and the air sensor, and the power locks system is fairly well shot. It's been a lovely little car though and I will miss it. (But not that much, for the Scion will be new and shiny and happy.)

Secondly, my apartment lease is up in August. Since it's confirmed that I'll be staying in Austin, at least for a while yet, I'm going to be moving into a new place. Er, my own new place. I'm looking at buying a townhome or condo here instead of shelling out rent -- I'd rather be paying a house note. So, I've got to start handling that sort of thing -- looking around, seeing what's out there and where. My parents were supposedly going to handhold me a bit with this, but we'll see if I can actually count on that.

And, I think that about covers it. Eventually I suppose I should sit down and flashback to my European vacation, but in the meantime I'll just keep posting pictures.
