With very little effort I managed to find seven of my eleven books this evening -- including two of the actual textbooks I'll need -- and I got them all (plus five other books, but those aren't for school, hee) for $45. This reaffirms my belief that Half-Price Books is the best store in the whole entire world.
There actually is a trick to shopping Half-Price -- at least when there are several copies of the book you want. Sometimes the store won't have its own price sticker on the books. So, with multiple copies, you pick out the oldest copy in the best condition, and when they charge you for it, it's half of whatever the original price was. Thus, I got an old 1950s copy of Basic Selections from Emerson for a grand total of 30 cents.
Of course, any money I save on textbooks will be promptly funnelled into the Art Supply Fund...
Classes so far seem to be exactly as I expected them: fun, interesting, and busy, busy, busy. My enemy will be the little time I'll have in which to do everything. In retrospect I'm extremely glad that I didn't make it into the creative writing class -- I wouldn't have enough time to spend writing.
On a more sombre note, I was informed today that our family beagle, Clover (more affectionately known as Mess), was accidentally run over this morning, and due to the extent of her injuries had to be put down. Mess was technically my sister's dog, but she was always happy to see me when I came home, even when everyone else was busy or away or upset. It's a shame, really. I'll miss her.
