Why does it seem that everyone I know has converted?

Seriously. I find myself having more and more friends' LJs that I check and/or link. Why does LJ attract sooooo much more attention than a blog? Because you can have locked posts and friends-only journals, and make icons and form cliques and otherwise exclude people who aren't members of the LiveJournal circuit? If I started a LJ, would I get more comments on my posts there than here just because I'd be officially assimilated into the "LJ community"? If so, that's sad.
