Essays!!

I got a large envelope in the mail today. It came from my literature professor, Dr. Kevorkian, and contained my portfolio of essays that I had turned in on the last class day.

Written on the top of my Uncle Tom's Cabin essay (which wasn't as bad as I thought it was, but definitely needs some revision before it gets shown to anyone) was a note in the usual untidy scrawl:

Thanks for your outstanding and intellectually daring work throughout the semester. I believe my high opinion reflects more than my possible bias for last names containing two K's.

Hee. So I got an A in the course -- and with this kind of praise it almost makes up for the B in painting.

Anyway... now that I've got my revisions back and have done my final tweakings, I've finally put the Emerson and Melville essays up so you people can read them, if you so desire.

Tension and Paradox in Emerson's 'Nature'

Cetology

I'm fond of the Emerson essay -- but I'm especially proud of the Melville one. My prof called it "a triumph of an essay". I love this piece, and if I had the patience and the time, I could write a lot more on cetology in Moby-Dick.

And maybe I will, later.
