Skipping right along
I think I might be catching Micki's cold. Ah, well, we knew it was bound to happen eventually. Especially since I was feeling a bit stressed and run-down last week. So, I'm ostensibly using this day of class-skipping to work on my Moby-Dick essay (due tomorrow, of course).
It's not going well.
Not that I don't have plenty of ideas -- I do -- it's just arranging them in a coherent manner that I am having issues with. I have some coffee sitting next to my computer -- my first cup of the day, believe it or not, since I slept most of the morning -- so perhaps this will jump-start my efforts.
For those who are interested, the essay is tentatively titled "The Plot of 'Cetology'". Evidently I have out-geeked the rest of my class with this choice of topic; everyone stared at me and asked "why?!" when I mentioned it. The chapter "Cetology" is, on the surface, a massive infodump, and a lot of people have trouble with this departure from the main storyline, and the others like it. But if you look more closely, these supposedly infodumpy chapters are possibly the most symbolic of the whole book. It's exciting. I pointed this out when I had to lead class discussion last Thursday. My professor was especially intrigued. The metaphors! It's all about the metaphors!
Ahem. Enough lit geekiness for one day, eh?
