The best thing about Thanksgiving is the food. But the worst thing about Thanksgiving is the food.

As it stands right now, we have enough leftover turkey, ham, bread, and potatoes to last us for approximately three years. We also have a stockpile of leftover cheesecake, sweet potato pie, bread pudding, and ice cream; it should last about three days. The raspberry pie is already gone. And don't get me started about the bread pudding: it has blueberries and this wonderful sauce -- oh, gosh, it's good. Even better than my Aunt Linda's. Mm, bread pudding....

Ahem.

So, Micki, her mother, her cousin Lorie and I spent the day perusing four of the local Half Price Books stores. It's the best book shopping I've done in a long time. Of course, today being the biggest shopping day of the year, I didn't actually search for Christmas gifts, but rather came away with thirty dollars worth of books for myself. This is really not a bad deal, considering I got about ten books for that price, and one of them was hardback. But my best find was a copy of Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast trilogy. I've been searching for these books for months, ever since I was made aware that, unbeknownst to me, The Arithmancer's Apprentice contained many similarities to Gormenghast. And of course my wonderful co-author, who has such an aversion to "spoiling" things for me, refused to explain half the stuff we were alluding to. But now I've got three ancient paperbacks, in good condition, with really trippy cover art. And I paid two dollars for all three!

I love Half Price Books.
