A highly biased and selective look at the college life of Teri

Just got back from the movie theatre with Micki a moment ago. I know, watching movies seems to be about the only thing I go out and do -- but that's because there really isn't much of an alternative pastime in Tomball. I can't wait till I'm back in Austin.

And one of these days I'll talk about the local Tomball Cinema Six, which is theatre-going at its worst.

But anyway. So, we saw Minority Report -- and at last, I've spent my $5.50 on something worth watching! Indeed, well worth watching. Full of plot twists and turns, the film successfully sweeps the viewer in to its futuristic world -- a world which seems, at times, not very futuristic at all, but only just beyond our grasp; the mass commercial influence -- a world filled with personalized advertisements digitally plastered across every surface -- strikes particularly close to home. There are touches of the fantastic, some 1984-like creepiness, and overall a very nicely drawn vision of America in 2054. Features good performances all around; Tom Cruise gets the chance to reprise a little Mission: Impossible-type stuntwork (although thankfully there is an absence of face masks). But it all goes back to the construction of this future world, and the political and ethical questions that arise -- that's what is so engrossing, in my opinion. I'll have to locate a copy of the book now. Minority Report's entertaining and thought-provoking and I certainly recommend it.
