I'm supposed to be in class right now. In fact, I only came to my dorm to grab a mirror so I could do my self-portrait in art class this morning. However, here I am, blogging. But this is worth it. This is cool. Really, really cool.
You see, when I passed by the mail room, I also checked my mailbox, to find that I had a package slip. The pink slip was traded in for a small box from Cally Perry. And the small box, upon opening, revealed a curled piece of parchment, wrapped loosely around...
...A WAND!
Sugar maple and griffin feather, for the record. The parchment, signed from Walt Swanson, the amazing guy from whom Cally gets these nifty gifts, reads (and I might scan this thing in later, and post a link):
This wand has chosen you.
It is made of sugar maple. Perhaps nature's most versatile wood, it is both hard and flexible. It's closed grain makes it superior for countertops and cookware. As an artist, you don't need to be reminded of its autumn brilliance. Its sap is the stuff of maple syrup. The wood of your wand has been riven, so that the fibres run its entire length. It has been finished with pure beeswax.
The tip is solid brass. In the tip's chamber is the feather of a griffin (gyps africanus).
In the bottom chamber you must place a hair from your head and a small piece of something you value.
Use this wand wisely.
Cally is a wonderful, wonderful friend. Thanks SO much. This has made my day.
And, Cally... What's your favorite flavor of coffee? You're going to get some in the mail. Thank-you coffee is even better than thank-you notes, right?
