Random Musings

A highly biased and selective look at the college life of Teri

It is Wednesday, and I can't believe that I've neglected, for three whole days, to rant about this on the blog. I suppose I ranted about it enough in chat. This was important. Well, maybe not. But anyway. It was very disappointing.

On Sunday night, I sat down to my normal routine of multitasking between chat, watching prime time television, and pretending to write. At eight o'clock, I was also faced with my normal Sunday night dilemma: should I keep the channel on FOX, and watch the usually painfully disappointing episode of The X-Files, or should I change the channel to ABC, and attempt to understand what's going on in the new Alias while I chat?

After a few minutes, I thought to myself, "You know, I don't think I have a reason to watch The X-Files today; I'll go with Alias." And so, I flipped channels, and proceeded to completely miss most of what went on in the entire episode.

When it ended, Jana suddenly appeared in the chat room, very disappointed, and asked if I'd seen The X-Files that night.

It was then that I realized that I actually had had a reason to watch The X-Files.

Because that was the episode in which the series was going to kill off ONE (according to the teaser) of the following people: Agent Monica "Moronica" Reyes, Agent John "I need good characterization" Doggett, or the Lone Gunmen: Byers, Langly, or Frohike.

Now, since I have despised Agent Moronica since she appeared on the show last season, I was completely rooting for her death. (Last season I not-so-secretly hoped that Scully's baby would be one of those man-eating, clawed aliens, and would devour Monica Reyes for breakfast. It was a nice thought, but of course it never happened.)

And nothing happened to Moronica this time, either. Because you know who Chris Carter decided to do away with?

The Lone Gunmen. All. Three. Of. Them.

And I missed the episode.

Oh, the sadness and horror of it all. THE LONE GUNMEN. What a waste! They were three of television's best geeks. I can't believe we'll never see Frohike hitting on Scully again, or Langly bragging about his superior Kung Fu, or Byers acting so charmingly paranoid. Because they're DEAD. Wah!

I didn't think the show could get any worse, but Chris Carter and co. continue to suprise and disgust me.

Now, I know this is The X-Files, and technically no one is dead until we see a corpse, and even then it might not be true. But there are only five episodes left this season, and talk of further movies is sketchy at best (not to mention I think The X-Files franchise is just about dead, anyway). I sincerely doubt we'll see them return.

Sigh. Farewell, Gunmen.
