You know, around the dorm at UT, people always ask me, “Hey, Teri, how is it that you have time to do stuff like pleasure reading, chatting online, and sleeping? I’m always SO busy with school, I never have any time for that stuff anymore! How DO you do it?”
Well, it’s quite simple, really. I don’t study.
I know what you’re thinking. “But Teri! If you don’t study, how do you expect to get through college? And I thought you liked school?”
I do like school. And I attend my classes with stunning regularity when compared to the average college student. I just don’t do much outside of the classroom, save the occasional cram session, and I use that valuable time to do more important things. Like read great literature, surf the web, and co-author long stories that can’t be published. Nice life, eh?
The average college student has five main priorities, in order of importance:
1. Class
2. Study
3. Party
4. Eat
5. Sleep
Compared with my top five priorities:
1. Class
2. Internet
3. Read/write
4. Eat
5. Sleep
The most notable difference between the two, aside from the exclusion of “Study” as one of my top priorities, is the shocking absence of “Party” as a main concern. In truth, the average college student need not sacrifice study time in order to enjoy such pastimes as the pleasure of a good book or an uninterrupted 6 hours of sleep; simply lowering the priority of partying would allow considerably more free time in one’s day or night.
However, for me, in order to have even more time (and because I don’t get invited to that many parties), I choose to also abandon studying.
What’s that you say? I’m committing academic suicide? Well, I beg to differ.
The average freshman student at UT has a GPA of 2.82.
My GPA is currently 3.825.
I rest my case.
