By the way, everyone, I do intend to scan pictures and sketches ASAP. You may have noted that I've changed my links to my artwork. That's because I'm in the process of setting up a separate page for my art, an online portfolio if you will. I have a couple of my watercolors and pen drawings from Italy up at that site. Check it out, if you are so inclined.
And if you think that page design looks familiar... well, you'd be right. Because why make your own code when you can alter some perfectly good existing code? And on that note, Wolf is probably going to tell me that the code I altered is very dirty, or something. :)
To catch up with what I've been doing since I got back from Italy:
I've been happier than I've been in about... oh, years. The world is a lovely, lovely place right now. Yes, indeed.
I spent a week in Tomball, helping out at the shop and attending the wedding reception of my friends Shawn and Ana Fe, who were married in June. My mother was catering the reception so I got to help set up the place, wheich meant unfolding 600 paper cranes (it was supposed to be a thousand for good luck, but, you know, 600 is good enough -- it seemed like a thousand) and setting them up as centerpieces. It looked quite lovely -- but if it took so long to unfold them, then I don't even want to think about how much time it took to make the things!
I went to visit my relatives in south Texas at the end of that week. Enjoyed seeing everyone, but I was really ready to be back in Austin by that time, so I was pretty glad when I got back to my apartment on Sunday night.
I was going to have a week off from work last week -- but as it turned out, an employee sort of disappeared on us without any warning, so I picked up her shifts. It's good to be back at work -- it's nice to have something to do, and it would appear that I was sorely missed during my two months away. Since returning I've had absolutely no trouble with any of my co-workers -- indeed, it seems like all of them actually regard me as an equal now. No more of that business of feeling slightly like an outsider. It's been good. I was even invited out with them after work the other night, although it meant I got turned away from half of Sixth Street because I'm under 21. They promised me that they'd get me drunk on my next birthday. Frankly, I'm kind of scared. ;)
Last Wednesday I got a surprise visit from Cally Perry, one of the coolest people I know. This brings my tally of online friend meetings up to three. Yay! She happened to be in Dallas for a job-related course, and decided to take the time to drive to Austin and visit me, which was really sweet of her. We went out to Trudy's for Tex-Mex (where I showed off my complete lack of direction) and chatted a lot about Harry Potter and personality types and accents and other things. I had a lot of fun talking to her -- it's always so great to discuss with online friends in real life. She also offered to send me her neat-o Harry Potter books-on-tape collection so I can listen to them without having to spend an exorbitant amount of money. Cally rocks. :)
In other news, I managed to secure days off on August 2 and August 5: on the second I'm probably going with Micki to see her favorite Tracy Chapman impersonator, Jason Mraz, at Stubbs. And on the fifth, I'm dragging Micki to San Antonio to see my second favorite Englishman, Dave Gahan, in concert at the Majestic Theatre. Oh yeah!
So that's about all I've been up to. I'm finally up to date with this thing, too. Look at me go!
